Volunteer today in 2-hour or 3.5-hour increments (depending on Events).

We’re going to need a few extra hands to help pitch in to put together the details of the Exhibition. If you have some time to get involved and are interested in supporting putting on the upcoming exhibition, we’re looking for some art supporters with event production experience, people to social media and website design support.  If there are any digital journalists, video shooters, editors or digital design mavens that would like to get involved, please contact us at info@makersalley.org

Programming

The programming team works to identify, develop, and help structure the details of Makers Alley’s individual programming activities.  This effort includes helping to identify and coordinate the volunteer teams, prepare estimated budgets, keep a schedule of assignments to execute the details of the program and maintain the calendar items and events necessary to complete the programming.  Estimated time 4 hours per week or on a project by project basis.

Workshops/Studio Visits/Makers Talk Coordinator

We currently have approximately 10 workshops and Makers Talks in various stages of development.  The Workshop coordinators work to keep track of the wide variety of artist candidates and workshop ideas that come from the collective. The workshop coordinator helps to  identify and coordinate workshop leaders, and supports the workshop leaders to prepare the schedule and materials for the workshop sessions.  The coordinators work with our design and outreach teams (website, newsletter and social media) to present the workshop offerings to the public. Estimated time 2-3 hours per week.

Membership Coordinator 

Coordinates with interested parties that come to our events and activities who express interest in Makers Alley. Keeps and updates mailing lists and works with the volunteer coordinator to develop our membership base into supporting our programming initiatives. This is an outward facing ambassador role, looking to help identify potential membership candidates and artists in our area. Good computer skills, spreadsheet, and knowledge of social media platforms, airtable or other project management tools helpful.  5 hours per week. 

Volunteer Coordinator

Works with all the other functioning coordinators in support of staffing our events and activities. Helps put together the outreach effort to identify and work with new and existing members that are assigned to projects for specific functionality. Supports and monitors the ongoing calendar updates to keep track of the changes and due dates for our events and activities. 3-5 hours per week.

Content Coordinator/writer

Helps shape our outward messaging for programming, our exhibition schedule, membership communications, newsletter editing and reporting.  5 hours per week.

Digital media maker/coordinator

Media savvy person with strong digital communications skills and digital strategy experience is recommended to conceive and develop the visualization of our outreach effort.  Helps coordinate and update website and newsletter programs approximately 2 per month, and assist in maintaining social media posting schedule and distribution outreach support our website, newsletter, email communications. Responsible for updating our media press kit.  Understanding of digital journalism, organizing and producing content stories, artist profiles and covering our events and activities.

Works with our design director/art director, posting and archiving social media skills required. Good graphic design abilities, experience organizing video shoots, editing, digital strategy, photography, live event and print production management is very helpful.  Mac based.  3-5 hours per week.

Artist Relations/Community Building

Members and volunteers  are needed to support our outreach and marketing teams to get the word out about our programming initiatives.  Update and keep track of our communications with the overall makers community of artists and artisans in our area. Good interpersonal skills and media skills help outreach with current project participants and new potential collaborators. Responsibilities include facilitating liaison with other artists, artisans as well as to maintain communications with other arts and culture activity in our area.  Works with the volunteer coordinator to identify key events and activities with other arts and cultural organizations in our area. 5 hours per week.

Creative Presentation of Makers Alley

We’re looking for candidates with good event production experience to help prepare for and build out our Exhibits and special events.  Hanging and mounting works of art in our installations is a group effort, challenging and a lot of fun.  

Sponsorship/Partnership Coordinator/Fundraiser

Helps MA make contact with and coordinate events and activities with potential sponsorship/partnership activities. Coordinates research efforts to identify other fundraising ideas and concepts to consider, plan for and execute.  Works with any grant writing activities MA identifies and decides to pursue.

Fundraising target is to raise $50,000 next year.  Compensation offered is 10% of the proceeds of any transaction. 

Administrative Support

Helps keep track of our activities, schedules, calendars, bookkeeping and supports other administrative functions.  Good organizational and communication skills. Estimated time 3-5 hours per week.

River Arts Collective (RAC):  

River Arts Collective is a coalition of area arts and culture organizations, galleries and businesses collaborating to present exhibitions, events and activities that celebrate art and creativity in the Delaware River Valley.  RAC has been a program that has been conceived and incubated and nurtured by Makers Alley. by As a stand-alone neutral “brand” that is not Makers Alley or ArtYard or any other independent arts organization, RAC can be used to support the entire arts and cultural community. RAC produces “ArtOber” – a month-long Fall festival that last year 30 individual organizations contributed to marketing and promoting all activities during the regional festival. Coordinators needed to facilitate Makers Alley’s activities with RAC. Estimated time 2-3 hours per week

Out & About Ambassadors:

Out & About is our activity and event listing section of our newsletter, website, & social media that lets our supporters know about upcoming events, activities and exhibitions along with exhibition submission and deadline dates. Out & About Ambassadors liaise with & coordinate information between RAC members in regard to getting RAC member activities on the calendar; coordinates getting programming notices and marketing assets from RAC members to help promote the collaborative events & activities.  Volunteers should enjoy keeping up with the cultural events and activities relevant to our Maker Community focus. This encompasses good writing skills, interest in collecting promotional materials form other groups & organizations, visiting other venues & cultural organizations. 

Below are some of the small projects that can be done once a month, once a week, or even once in a while!

  • Distributing postcards and flyers: ongoing
  • Artwork check-in/check out
  • Exhibition Install
  • Gallery Attendants & Art Handlers: 2-3 hour shifts on, currently on Saturdays 11-6PM, and Sundays 11-6PM
  • Facilitate Artwork pickup
  • Social Media, Website and Newsletters: Ongoing throughout the year
